Grande-Basque Island has been a fishing destination for centuries. In fact, when Jacques Cartier sailed by in 1535, he encountered Basque fishermen who came here annually for whaling and cod fishing. Today Grande Basque Island has much to offer, including a recreational area with walking/hiking trails and six beautiful beaches.
